Our year ahead:
Literacy
Reading - students participate in a Fountas & Pinnell reading program. This is a program that has been implemented right across the school to develop well balanced readers. The program sees students having one-on-one appointments with their teachers to set and monitor specific reading goals. These goals are communicated home and displayed in the classrooms. They are encouraged to be practised at home as well as at school.
Writing - Students are exposed to a range of writing genres throughout the year. Goal setting with students allows us to target individual needs within the grade.
Spelling - Increasing student's bank of known words and strategies for tackling new words is our ongoing goal. Students are introduced to spelling concepts based on current spelling needs and lists are individualised for students.
Word Study - Words Their Way is a developmental, spelling and vocabulary program. It is differentiated to students point of need and teaches students to examine words to discover the regularities, patterns, and conventions of the English language in order to read, write and spell.
