Literacy – to be literate is to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating in and out of school and for participating effectively in life.
At BMPS, Literacy involves students listening to, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating oral, print and digital texts. Our Literacy classrooms and philosophy incorporate each of these elements through a range of evidence based instructional strategies and authentic (real life) experiences.
We engage in Literacy with a positive mindset and want our BMPS Readers and Writers to view Literacy as a key component of their ‘learning toolkit’. We celebrate our achievements in Literacy and provide a clear sequence of learning for each child. Together, we frame explicit learning goals and next steps in the Literacy learning journey.
